Lights, Camera, Action!!
With these events in Jacksonville, Florida, we are dipping our toes into something new. Recording JtE-1 and -2 for an eventual online release. We’ll be changing the format of JtE slightly to accommodate these recordings, while still allowing you the most uninterrupted learning experience possible.
We’ll be conducting the lecture portion of the series in blocks, each to be followed by a Question and Answer session (which will honestly take up most of our weekend!).
You are not required to be on film in any way during this course. No one will be filmed dancing, or asking questions during the course. The only parts we’ll be filming are Sahra’s lecture portions.
Why does this matter to you?
Because we’re lowering the price to accommodate!
Prices for JtE often run around $350.00 per weekend of the course, with only a slight discount for both courses together.
However, due to the nature of the weekend, we’re lowing the price:
JtE-1 & 2
$325.00
If you are also attending River City Raqs, earlier in March you are also qualified for a special discount of $25.00 off one weekend, or $50.00 off both. Proof of payment to RCR is required.
Registration Information
To register, simply Paypal your deposit to TiffanyNoro [at] gmail [dot] com and include which weekends you’d like to attend in the notes. You may pay the remainder of your balance via Paypal or check closer to the dates of the workshop.
Deposits are non-refundable.
Information about Journey Through Egypt 1
Journey Through Egypt 1 is an overview on the movement, posture, clothing, history, and cultural diffusion in the different regions of Egypt. Sahra’s unique perspective follows how the dance transforms from the homes of the people to the sparkling stages of Cairo.
While the particulars of every dance, and every bit of culture cannot be conveyed in the 20 hours that make up JtE-1, Sahra strives to present a factual and entertaining overview of the dances of Egypt.
THE DANCES STUDIED INCLUDE
Ghawazee
Cairo
Sa’idi
Nubian
Haggallah
Suez Canal
Fellahin
Bedouin
These dances are put into the context of the local culture and histories. Their transformation from homestyle to the stage is also covered in depth. For several of the dances the students break from lecture to stretch their muscles and learn the movements that can traditionally be found in these dances.
